Seahorse Class Term 6 2021-2022
We have had a very busy but fun final term in Seahorse class! I am very proud of all the children who have been putting in lots of effort and have enjoyed working with all the adults in the classroom.
The children have continued to enjoy working towards earning stars for a reward on Fridays and filling up the class marble jar for the special whole class reward of a ‘Beach’ party at the end of the term. They have earned lots of marbles by tidying up after every lesson. Well done Seahorse class!
We have had an exciting topic this term: ‘Full Steam Ahead’. We have been looking at a variety of books and internet sites to broaden our knowledge of different transports. We have looked at what the vehicles looked like in the past and what they look like in the present. We have looked at what the vehicles are used for. We have looked at the different types of trains, ships, buses, bikes and planes. The children have continued to learn a sound and a sign of the week. We continue to visit the school Library and they really enjoyed choosing a book to take home.
The children have looked at the work of the artist, Andy Warhol. We have looked at creating patterns within their pictures, using a variety of objects to create different patterns and creating a self- portrait in the style of Andy Warhol.
We had a great time during our visit to Coate Water for the Teddy Bear’s picnic. The children enjoyed their train ride. I was so proud of them when they went to order an ice cream each at the park kiosk.
In core maths all of Seahorse class continue to work on counting, addition, subtraction and multiplication. In supplementary maths we have been focused on measurement, position and shapes. The children have continued to enjoy using their coins to exchange for snacks in the Friday Breakfast Club.
Seahorses continue to enjoy having Jigsaw Jack in the PSHE lessons. We have been looking at changes. Jigsaw Jack has helped the children to discuss the life cycle of a frog and humans. We have looked at the differences that happen in the stages of human life. The children have named the outside parts of the body. We have continued to greet each other signing ‘Hello’, shaking hands and giving each other a ‘High five’.
The children have been using the programme, ‘Purple Mash’ to design and create different vehicles. They have created different designs for cars, trains and buses. The children are continuing to learn how to log in using their own password and then completing activities.
The children have continued to enjoy cooking this term. They have continued to explore different foods and textures. The children have looked at foods from around the U.K. Some of the children have followed recipes to make Eton Mess, Welsh cakes and shortbread.
The children have enjoyed exploring the school garden this term. They have completed the challenges set which have included exploring the garden for transport, collecting resources for art activities and sawing wheel shapes out of logs for a wooden vehicle.
In their drumming lessons the children have continued to enjoy their time with their teacher DJ and have been very enthusiastic to join in with his music.

Seahorse Term 5 2021-2022
We have had another busy term in Seahorse class! I am very proud of all the children who have been putting in lots of effort and have enjoyed working with all the adults in the classroom.
The children have continued to enjoy working towards earning stars for a reward on Fridays and filling up the class marble jar for the special whole class reward of a ‘Pass the Parcel’ party. They have earned lots of marbles by tidying up after every lesson. Well done Seahorse class!
We have had an exciting topic this term: ‘Down at the bottom of the garden’. We have been looking at a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction, to broaden our knowledge of the different minibeasts and their habitats. We have looked at what the minibeasts are called, what they look like and where they live. Some of the children have created a flap book about where the minibeasts live and have written a description of a minibeast. The children have continued to learn a sound and a sign of the week. We continue to visit the school Library and they really enjoy choosing a book to take home.
The children have been encouraged to explore minibeasts through sensory play. The children have made minibeasts out of a range of art media such as playdough and resources from the school garden.
We had a great time during the whole school measurement week. The children measured each other with socks and measuring tapes. They measured the outdoor area and explored weighing a variety of objects. The children drew around and decorated their own footprints. These were used by some of the children to measure the playground. The children really enjoyed joining Helena and other classes in the Hall to listen to the story ‘Tall’ by Jez Alborough.
In core maths all of Seahorse class continue to work on counting, addition, subtraction and multiplication. In supplementary maths we have been focused on measurement and shapes. In the lessons we have been looking at the months of the year and days of the week. The children have continued to enjoy using their coins to exchange for snacks in the Friday Breakfast Club.
Seahorses continue to enjoy having Jigsaw Jack in the PSHE lessons. We have been looking at relationships. Jigsaw Jack have helped the children to discuss what is a good friend and how we can show kindness to each other. The children have looked at ways of how they can greet each other. We have practised signing ‘Hello’, shaking hands and giving each other a ‘High five’.
Some of the children have been using the programme, ‘Purple Mash’ to introduce following and giving instructions. They have followed instructions to make different Lego constructions and to sequence the order of making a crispy cake. The children are continuing to learn how to log in using their own password and then completing activities.
The children have continued to enjoy cooking this term. They have explored different foods and textures. Some of the children have followed recipes to make banana muffins, carrot cupcakes, fruit cones and banana bumblebees.
The children have enjoyed exploring the school garden this term. They have completed the challenges set which have included exploring the garden for minibeasts, collecting resources for art activities and seeing how many children it will take to balance with Nick on the see-saw.
In their drumming lessons the children have continued to enjoy their time with their teacher DJ and have been very enthusiastic to join in with his music.

Seahorse Term 4 2021- 2022
It has been another busy term for the children in Seahorse class! The children have been putting in lots of effort and have enjoyed working with all the adults in the classroom.
The children have continued to enjoy working towards earning stars for a reward on Fridays and filling up the class marble jar for the special whole class reward of an Easter party. They have earned lots of marbles by tidying up after every lesson. Well done Seahorse class!
We have had an exciting topic this term: ‘People who help us’. We have been looking at a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction, to broaden our knowledge of the different roles people who help us have. We have looked at what bus drivers, train drivers, firefighters, police, vets, and doctors do, what they wear and what equipment or vehicles they use. Some of the children have created writing to go into speech bubbles, created a description for a police suspect, wrote a thank you card for their bus driver and described what they could see outside the train window. The other children have been encouraged to role play by buying train tickets, having a bus journey, answering the phone and dressing up in the different roles.
We had a great time with our families during their visit for World book day week. One of our favourite books is Jack and the beanstalk and we had a great time planting our own bean seeds and making castles in the air. The children enjoyed searching the outdoor area with their parents to find the book clues.
In core maths all of Seahorse class have been working hard on counting, addition and subtraction. The characters of the Pacman game have even helped us to count in twos and subtract. In supplementary maths we have been focused on measurement and shapes. In the lessons we have been looking at using the correct vocabulary for length and height. The children have continued to enjoy using their coins to exchange for snacks in the Friday Breakfast Club.
Seahorses have enjoyed having Jigsaw Jack in the PSHE lessons. We have been looking at keeping healthy. Jigsaw Jack have helped the children to discuss what is healthy. The children have looked at ways of how they can keep healthy. We have been trying different vegetables and fruits during snack time by licking, eating and even squeezing the juice.
Some of the children have been using the programme, ‘Purple Mash’ to continue keeping our passwords safe when using the internet. The children have been learning how to log in using their own password and then completing activities.
The children enjoyed being in the small garden to complete their colour run to celebrate Autism Awareness week. They were eager to choose the colours of the paints and looked great in their sunglasses!
The children have continued to enjoy cooking with Mandy this term. They have been exploring different foods and textures. The children decorated special biscuits to celebrate Red Nose Day. They have enjoyed trying different toppings for their toast and continuing to learn about healthy foods.
The children have enjoyed exploring the seasonal changes in the school garden this term. They have completed the challenges set by Nick which include planting young trees and learning how to light a small fire.
In their drumming lessons the children have continued to listen well to their teacher DJ and have been very enthusiastic to join in with his music.

Seahorse Term 3 2021-2022
It has been another busy term for the children in Seahorse class! The children have been putting in lots of effort and have enjoyed working with all the adults in the classroom.
The children have continued to enjoy working towards earning stars for a reward on Fridays and filling up the class marble jar for a special whole class reward. They have earned lots of marbles by tidying up after every lesson. Well done Seahorse class!
We have had two topics this term: ‘Heroes and Villains’ and ‘The Farm’. We have been looking at the stories of ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet and ‘A squash and a squeeze’ by Julia Donaldson. Some of the children have created writing to caption the pictures from the ‘Supertato’ story. They have imagined what the superheroes would say and have put their writing into speech bubbles. They have designed the superhero they would like to be and talked about the superpowers they would like. The other children have named animals they would find on a farm and are beginning to label pictures of animals.
In core maths all of Seahorse class have been working hard on counting, addition and subtraction. The characters of ‘Supertato’ have even helped us to count in twos. In supplementary maths we have been focused on measurement and shapes. In the lessons we have been looking at using the correct vocabulary for weight and capacity. We have also continued to recognise coins and some of the children have been adding the coin amounts. The children have enjoyed using their coins to exchange for snacks in the Friday Breakfast Club.
Seahorses have enjoyed having Jigsaw Jack in the PSHE lessons. We have been looking at dreams and goals. Jigsaw Jack celebrated Internet Safety Day with Seahorses. The children have looked at ways of how they can keep safe when they are using the internet. They will be asking for your help if they encounter a problem when using the internet.
Some of the children have been using the programme, ‘Purple Mash’ to create superhero vehicles, city scenes with superheroes and to use simple commands to manoeuvre their character around a game. The children have been learning how to play a matching pairs game and to use an art programme to create different designs.
The children have enjoyed being in the outdoor area this term. There have been a variety of activities for the children to be involved in. Favourite ones have included playing skittles, making soups and cakes in the mud kitchen and playing hide and seek.
The children have enjoyed cooking with Mandy this term. They have been exploring different foods and textures. They have enjoyed making fruit kebabs and finding out about healthy foods.
The children have enjoyed exploring the seasonal changes in the school garden this term. They have completed the challenges set by Nick which include finding different ways to melt ice to free the superhero figures. They have collected dry sticks and other parts of the plants to prepare to make a fire. The children learnt how to use the collected dry materials to make a fire. The fire was used to warm up drinks and to prepare warm toasties.
In their drumming lessons the children have continued to listen well to their teacher DJ and have been very enthusiastic to join in with his music.

Seahorse Term 2 2021-2022
Wow what a busy term we have just had! We were really pleased that the children’s families were able to join us for the Seahorse Christmas party. It was great that we could finally meet you all and the children were able to show you around their classroom. We hope that you enjoyed all the Christmas activities with your children.
The children have continued to enjoy working towards earning stars for a reward on Fridays and filling up the class marble jar for a special whole class reward. They have earned lots of marbles by tidying up after every lesson. They enjoyed a film as a reward at the end of term. Well done Seahorse class!
The topic this term is ‘Special Times’. We have been looking at different festivals and celebrations that are celebrated at this time of the year. We have looked at Harvest Festival, Bonfire Night and Hanukkah. Through the story of Rama and Sita we have looked at how Diwali is celebrated. We have made salt dough to create a Diya lamp with jewels and we have made paper lanterns. As we have journeyed towards Christmas, we have made decorations and Elf hats which we wore to our Christmas lunch.

In the lessons we have been looking at using the correct vocabulary for size and length. We have also started to recognise coins and some of the children have been adding the coin amounts.
Seahorses have been introduced to Jigsaw Jack in the PSHE lessons. We have been looking at celebrating differences. The children have identified similarities and differences between themselves.
The children have enjoyed being in the outdoor area this term. There have been a variety of activities for the children to be involved in. Favourite ones have included an autumn sensory hunt, a fruit and vegetable chalk trail and trying out the new trampoline.
The children have enjoyed cooking with Mandy this term. They have been exploring different smells and textures with edible cookie dough celebrating the different festivals. They made biscuits ready to be iced at the Christmas party. At Breakfast Club, the children were given an amount of toy money and really enjoyed paying for their snacks with it!
The children have enjoyed exploring the different seasonal colours in the school garden this term. They have completed the challenges set by Nick which include showing kindness to a friend or an adult and even keeping warm by sawing wood. The wood was turned into a special tree decoration for Christmas.
In their drumming lessons the children have continued to listen well to their teacher DJ and have been very enthusiastic to join in with his music.
The children were very excited to meet Father Christmas and his Elf. They loved receiving presents from him!

Seahorse Term 1 2021-2022
I can hardly believe that it is nearly the end of the first term! We have had a great start to the new school year. The children have enjoyed exploring the Seahorse classroom and the class outdoor area. They have been getting to know new friends and connecting with familiar faces from last year. All the adults in the class Christine, Dannie, Emma, Rachel and Vikki and I have been impressed with how quickly the children have settled well into the class routines. The children have enjoyed showing me around all the different places in The Chalet School.
The children have enjoyed working towards earning stars for a reward on Fridays and filling up the class marble jar for a special whole class reward. They have already filled up one jar with all their super efforts!
The topic this term is ‘I am special’. We have been completing some writing about our families looking at the photos of our family and looking at naming the people in our family. Our art lessons for our topic also led to everybody creating some wonderfully pictures of our families that are now adorning our classroom wall.
In core maths all of Seahorse class have been working hard on number and place value, addition and subtraction, with a few pupils also focusing on their counting in twos and tens too. Supplementary maths has primarily focused on time and shape, with children describing shapes and using the 3D shapes to make towers and rockets.
The Rainbow challenges this term have given the pupils a huge variety of different opportunities. Favourite ones have included making faces with objects from the school garden, painting Elmer in different colours, making face masks, finding the fastest car going down a ramp, dressing up as superheroes, placing the features on a face and following a pattern using cubes.
Through Breakfast club and cooking the children have enjoyed trying different cereals, different toppings for their toast and crumpets and various fruits. They have enjoyed helping with the preparation of the different fruits.
The children have enjoyed exploring the school garden. They have completed the challenges set by Nick which include finding their favourite colour amongst the leaves and berries, finding their own special place and looking to see what is still growing in the allotment. They even went on a Bear hunt!
In their drumming lessons the children have listened well to their teacher DJ and his music. They have been able to follow a beat on the drums and played the game ‘Follow my leader’ with each of them having a turn.
