Ofsted Celebrations

Staff at The Chalet School in Swindon are celebrating a fantastic outcome of their recent Ofsted inspection where they were graded ‘Expected’ in all standards. A team of inspectors visited the special school, which is part of the Brunel Academies Trust,  on January 13th and 14th and spent 2 days observing in class and meeting with staff and pupils. The school was one of the first locally to be inspected under the new Ofsted framework which, rather than providing one-word judgements, now grades the school across a range of standards. The Chalet School was graded as ‘Expected’ in each standard which is proving to be a fantastic achievement when compared to other schools nationally. The inspectors particularly praised the well-designed curriculum and broad opportunities for personal development, as well as the focus on independence and communication skills.

The report concluded that “Pupils at The Chalet School experience a nurturing and inclusive environment where they feel safe, valued, and able to learn. From the moment they arrive, calm routines and positive relationships with staff help pupils to regulate and prepare for the day. They settle quickly and engage confidently in their learning. Staff know pupils very well.”

Interim Headteacher Alexandra Foster stated “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of the inspection. The staff team at The Chalet School are incredible; they share a passion and dedication for ensuring that all pupils have the ability not only to achieve and progress in school, but also to become independent young people who can advocate for their own needs. There has been considerable energy and focus across all aspects of the school to implement positive changes where necessary and to reflect on the journey so far. This really is a success for our whole school community of pupils, staff and families and reflects the values of our wonderful school.”
