Turtle Class Term 6 2021-2022
This terms topic has been Full Steam Ahead, the children have enjoyed learning about different modes of transport, along with how they are made and have been adapted through time. Everyone has enjoyed using different vehicles to paint with, making tracks with the tyres; along with create vehicles out of construction toys. In cooking the children have all tried new fruits and vegetables, they have all enjoyed learning where the grow and how they are harvested.
In maths the children have enjoyed carrying on with number hunts in the outside area, where some children have been practicing number formation too. We have been handing coins over at a shop, counting objects, finding more and less, addition and subtraction. The children have enjoyed practical tasks to complete their maths.
This term in English the children have enjoyed writing for a purpose, they have created train and bus tickets, along with using clicker 8 to create the insert for their Father’s Day Card. Some children have enjoyed writing captions and composing sentences to write about modes of transport. Whereas the rest of the class have enjoyed distinguishing between pictures, words and letters.
It’s been great to see all the children playing together, especially now the weather has improved. They have played football and chase, along with waiting their turn with the bubble rocket and tyres.
Everyone in Turtle class have continued to work hard and show lots of progress. The adults are very proud in all that the children have achieved and cannot wait to see you blossom in your new class. Well done Turtle class.

Turtle Class Term 5 2021-2022
This term has been short, but Turtle class has been very busy! We have had a new child start in term 5 and all of Turtles have been so friendly and welcoming. All the children introduced themselves during a circle time and stood up in front of the class and spoke about their likes and dislikes.
The children have enjoyed exploring what is down at the bottom of the garden, by going on bug hunts, creating a bug hotel and planting seeds. The children all enjoyed creating a greenhouse outside and exploring the mud kitchen! We have never been so muddy! The children have enjoyed ordering the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, writing sentences about the story and creating butterflies using natural objects. Great Work Turtles!
The children have enjoyed learning about the British Value – Democracy. Each week the children have been voting for a different activity or food item. This has included: bourbons or malted milk biscuits and paddling pool or a treasure hunt. It was great to see the children understand and accept if their choice wasn’t chosen.
In week 4, the children enjoyed exploring different types of measure in the outdoor provision. They have explored heavy and light using giant scales and spaghetti! Turtle class have measured the outside environment using trundled wheels, with some children counting to 100! The children worked together to create a big and small soldier for the Jubilee celebrations. To finish measurement week, the children transitioned to the hall and engaged in a story time with Helena. All the children sat and listened the story ‘Tall’ being read.
The children have learnt all about the Queen during circle time in week 5. To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee all the children have been busy creating crowns, bunting and paper chains ready for the whole school celebration. Turtle class have also collaborated with the whole school to colour 4 pieces of a large artwork to make a big Queen. All the children have enjoyed the Jubilee celebrations and were amazing at requesting a special snack item, scones, jam tarts and lemonade!
Turtle Term 4 2021-2022
This term topic has been ‘people that help us’. The children have all enjoyed learning about the different jobs people do and how they help us. We have explored jobs including the police, doctors, nurses and firemen. The children have all engaged in a variety of role-playing experiences, including putting out pretend fires in the school garden, exploring their fingerprints and bandaging the adults up. They have also enjoyed using the white board to design their own fire engines and taking their own picture on the iPad to turn themselves into firemen.
The children continue to benefit from our practical maths activities in our outside provision, activities included going on number hunts, counting animals and sorting shape. All children have continued to show progress in their name writing skills this term and we have continued to practice this skill during our daily morning jobs. We have created our own captions for ‘people that help us’ pictures and the children have enjoyed telling a story about what is happening in the picture.
During this term, the children have also enjoyed taking part in world book day activities and sharing this with the parents. The children enjoyed wearing their pyjamas to school and shared books in the library with the adults.
The whole team are very proud of all the children who took part in creating their own talent show to celebrate Red Nose Day. Each child chose their own talent, practiced throughout the day and then performed to an audience of peers from different classes. The children’s talents included plate spinning, ribbon twirling, joke telling, ventriloquism and eating crisps while remaining seated.
During autism acceptance week the children created their own puzzle about what makes them unique and on Thursday took part in a colour run to celebrate. The children were great at following the rules and enjoyed getting very messy.
Amazing work this term Turtle class, you should all be very proud. We can’t wait for next terms topic: Down at the bottom of the garden.
Turtle Term 3 2021-2022
This terms topic has been On the Farm. The children have all enjoyed learning about different farm animals and the products they can give us. We have explored and made our own sandwiches during cooking and all the children have practiced milking a cow, brushing a pony’s mane and feeding the ducks! The children have listened to songs, stories and rhymes about the farm and have all loved the story Farmer Duck, with most children joining in with the repetitive phrases, they have enjoyed re-enacting the story using masks. The children have also explored on the farm during our art sessions and have explored different materials to cut and stick to create farms animals to put on display in the classroom.
The children continue to benefit from practical maths activities in the outside provision, including going on number hunts, counting and categorising the farm animals, and learning about 1 less. We have all enjoyed visiting the small garden to take part in a scavenger hunt and have shown an understanding of numbers up to 10.
All children have continued to show progress in their name writing skills this term and have continued to practice this skill during daily morning tasks. We have created our own captions for farm pictures and the children have enjoyed exploring different mark making tools, including chalks, paint, water, pens and pencils.
All of Turtle’s class have continued to stay positive and have all worked hard this term. The adults are very proud in all that the children have achieved and can’t wait to celebrate with a pizza party at the end of term. Well done Turtle class.

Turtle Term 2 2021-2022
This terms topic has been Special Times. The children have all enjoyed learning about different celebrations including: Harvest, Bonfire night, Diwali, Remembrance Day, Hanukkah and Christmas!
The children have listened to songs, stories and rhymes about the weeks focused special time and have created large artwork for the display, including a handprint wreath and Menorah. The children have been trying different foods but most of all the children have enjoyed the messy play activities, which have included curry, clay diyas, grating potatoes to make Latkes and making snow using shaving foam!
The children have continued to benefit from practical maths activities in the outside provision, including going on number hunts, counting baubles and created our own addition sums, using poppies. We have all enjoyed the change in the season, especially the leaves falling off the tress, this has helped us compare one and of lots of leaves to develop our understanding.
All the children were enthusiastic to create their Christmas wish list using the Argos catalogues, all of the children had a go at making a mark on their list, with most of them being able to copy write the names of the items! The children helped to create cards for the elderly residents in care homes along with creating one for their own family too. It been great to see the children so engage for writing for a purpose.
Christmas arrived on the 1st of December in Turtle class and the children have all enjoyed making paper chains for the classroom, decorating the Christmas tree and creating their own decorations too. The children have enjoyed opening the Christmas advent calendar each day to see the Christmas picture and loved dressing up from the selection of Christmas characters.
The children all enjoyed sharing Christmas activities with their parents, the children enjoyed creating snowflakes and salt dough decorations. Children and parents all enjoyed decorating an edible biscuit too. The afternoon ended with a game of pass the parcel, which the children loved that parents joining in too!
The children loved seeing Santa and his elf helper at the end of the term and are all looking forward to eating their selection boxes!

Turtle Term 1 2021-2022
This term the children have had lots of fun exploring the new toys in Turtle class and the Coral Reef outside area. Everyone has settled in well and have created new friendships within the class, along with developing existing friendships too. As a class we have been embedding new routines, with the help of our schedules and the children have enjoyed collecting marbles in their reward jars weekly, before celebrating their achievements in assembly. It’s been great to see all the children cheer and clap their friends!
It been lovely to see all the children share resources and engage with the new role play area which has been set up as a restaurant and shop this term. Everyone has been increasing their engagement during our attention autism bucket group sessions. The children have loved the new noisy and light up toys and most recently the children have been waiting and taking turns within these sessions. Great work Turtles!
In maths, the children have enjoyed using songs and rhymes to support counting and number order. All the children have been eager to show their understanding of measurement, this term we have focused on big and small. It been great to see the children comparing objects and using familiar language when talking about the size of objects.
In English we have been investigating different mark making tools and sensory experiences to improve our grip. Activities have included daily name writing, over writing and copy writing our addresses and writing shopping lists of the food we like.
As part of this term’s topic, I am special, the children have engaged in a variety of sensory based activities in the outside area to support this. They have loved making faces from clay and natural objects, playdough and vegetables. During the weekly cooking sessions, we have been developing our likes and dislikes of fruit. The children have tasted, cut up and explored the fruit. It’s been great to observe most of the children exploring and trying a small amount of the new fruit.
This term the children have really enjoyed our weekly visit to the school library and it’s amazing to see the children’s enthusiasm for reading and sharing stories grow throughout the term.
