Swimming

At The Chalet School, we recognise that swimming is a key life skill for our pupils and that it is a leisure activity that our pupils can enjoy with their families. We provide above and beyond the National Curriculum expectations for swimming ensuring that our KS2 pupils have at least a terms swimming annually. It is required that by the end of Key Stage 2, pupils should be taught to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
  • Perform a safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

This year all pupils in year 4, 5 & 6 will have swimming lesson's for half the year. We swim at Cricklade Leisure Centre and the pupils work towards the Learn to Swim Stages which are assessed by the swim teacher and the class teacher. Some Key Stage 2 pupils will work towards Duckling Stages as this is appropriate to their stage of learning.
